Do I have to pay to register for the EPIC Coding Challenge?

No, registration is free.

Are there any preferences regarding coding skills or languages I should use?

No, but we recommend you choose a language the platform recognizes from the +40 current coding languages.

Where will the challenge take place? 

This is an online competition.

Can I complete the tournament from my smart phone?

No. The Epic Coding Challenge doesn’t support mobile platforms, only laptops and PCs.

No, all projects must be related to improving the experience of remote workers. 

Does the project need to be complete to win?

It's absolutely fine to submit just the prototype. The original idea doesn’t need to be fully implemented; however, the protype should be functional so that it can be reviewed by the judges.

Will I have to be available during the days that the platform is open? 

Can anyone participate in the hackathon?

No, only the top 16 performing teams/individuals from the Coding Challenge will compete for the final prize.

Is this an open hackathon?

About the Hackathon

No. You and your team will have the chance to set a time for when you’re all free, between November 11-25. Once you start the challenge, you’ll then have 3 hours to complete it.

What if there’s an issue with my computer or internet connection?

Don’t worry, your previously submitted answers will be saved on our platform’s servers. When your system is up and running, you can log in again and continue coding from where you left off. However, please note that the timer will continue running, which is why we advise that you ensure that your computer/internet connection is working properly before you begin the challenge.

Will I receive the results of the challenge? 

Yes, you can view your ranking on the leaderboard. This leaderboard is updated in real-time. Earning points depends on correctly submitting the coding requests within the time frame to the platform. 

Do team participants have to be from the same country to represent it?

No, but the team can choose the country they’ll represent from amongst team member’s respective home countries.

Do all my team members need to be in the same geographical location?

No! we believe in working together without borders and we encourage you to as well.

How do I submit my Hackathon project?

You’ll develop your project on your local system and submit it via the platform (upload details will be clearly made available).

Do I need to be online for the entire Hackathon duration?

No. You can develop the application on your local system based on the given themes and then submit it on the specific challenge page.

Are there restrictions on using languages or pre-built libraries?

There are no restrictions when it comes to languages, technology stacks, or libraries.

Do I need to build a demo for the solution?

Yes. Your demo session will be shown to the judging panel who will evaluate it.

Will all team members have access to the platform? 

Yes, all team members can log in into their account and complete application submissions on the platform.

Who will own the IP (Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built?

The developer/developers of the web/mobile application will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in the public domain (open source) so that it can be evaluated by the judges.

What criteria will judges use to evaluate the solutions?

Competition judges will consider the following when judging projects: creativity (idea novelty), scalability, impact and feasibility.

How will hackathon projects be evaluated?

On December 8th, all teams will demo their solutions in front of a panel of judges formed by industry experts from Andela and other organizations that will be announced soon.
